Purpose statement
We have continued to maintain and enhance the nature reserve known as Mrs York's Garden , re-establishing endemic native bushland and gardens with littoral rainforest and coastal headland species (over 2000 plants this year), and eradicating weeds and non-native species, and by establishing habitats for animals and birds. We have continued to re-generate a critically endangered ecosystem and connecting corridor of rainforest between North Shore and Sea Acres pockets. Also, continued to provide safe, all ability walkways (where possible)and structures (shelters, seating) for the community of all ages to enjoy the Garden for exercise, relaxation and education. Added a fibre mesh boardwalk to the bushland track connecting Mrs York's Garden to the nearby Town Beach foreshore and Amphitheatre. This removed the difficulties of tripping & slipping hazards, closure due to inundation and is protecting the natural environment from degradation due to human traffic. Almost $60,000 in Asset improvements and over $90,000 in volunteer labour this year. Volunteers with health issues included in greater numbers (dementia, disability, stroke victims) and increased focus on school student volunteer days and meeting curriculum needs with excursion days.
